Boing

Have you seen the Sony ad with the hundreds of thousands of superballs let loose on the streets of San Francisco? Well, it's been recreated by Battlefield players, thus proving that anything can be captivatingly beautiful so long as it's in slow motion and set to that song.

Wear and tear

I just love the special-edition Game Boy Micro that's included with the Mother 3 Deluxe Box; the faceplate's been designed to look as though the paint has worn off and chipped under your thumbs from all the Mother 3 you'll inevitably play. Incidentally, if this game does not get released in the US, heads will roll. I will personally box out Reggie Fils-Aime myself. I can deal with not having the Mother1+2 compilation here, since I've beaten Mother 2 (a.k.a. Earthbound) quite a few times and Mother 1 is honestly sort of annoying. Mother 3, however, I've been waiting for almost ten years now and I'd rather not learn Japanese to play it. BUT I TOTALLY WILL IF IT COMES DOWN TO THAT. (After the heads roll, of course.)

Word Disassociation

I love words. I love words even when they are put together in such a way that they make no sense. In fact, it's fair to say I love them even more in that case. (For example: Engrish.) And if it's set to music? Oh, be still my heart.

"You're being cheap!"

The amazing tale of strength and courage, never before told: how Ken and Ryu learned the hadouken. (Embedded Quicktime)

Awwww

This is a cute flash-animated music video, singing the praises of geeks in love. (Click the "Watch This Movie" link near the upper right.) I watched it twice, pausing it to check out all the little in-jokes and references. I can't believe the Dopefish is in there, let alone that I even recognized it.

Compulsory

I'm required by some sort of blogging law to direct you to these here video game scenes recreated in Lego!

Mario Adventure

There are some things you can do with a computer that completely baffle me. I turn into an old man and assume that there must be some sort of devil magic at work because it just doesn't seem possible otherwise. One of those things is to hack Super Mario Bros. 3 into an entirely new game. (My only complaint: like most hacks, it's frustratingly difficult.)

TIME for NINTENDO LOL

You might think I'm linking to this alarm clock somebody built out of an NES because... well, because it's just the sort of thing I'd link to. But the REAL reason I'm linking to it is for the way the guy totally stands his ground on his right to call controllers "paddles" (bottom of page).

"I mean, seriously!"

Here's an amusing self-referential video promo for the DS version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. It goes on for a while, but it's funny, and besides... you've got something better to do than watch an anime-styled coutroom drama all about how great the Nintendo DS is? (Embedded YouTube video)

Existential Lego Crisis

How can I ever feel like I've accomplished anything of worth with my life, when people keep doing things like building fully-functional pinball machines out of Lego?

Where's Dr. WHOA?

I really like Dr. Pepper. I actually find myself having to make a conscious effort to "cut back," from time to time. So I've always been amused by Dr. Pepper clones... but I was not nearly as amused as the guy who set up this web site.

Totaka's Song

As somebody who has probably spent more time messing around with the Mario Paint title screen than anybody else ever, I know "Totaka's Song" quite well, though I didn't know it by that name until today. When you click the "O" in "Mario Paint," it turns into a bomb, which explodes and replaces the title screen music with a little beepy tune. It turns out that the composer, Kazumi Totaka, went on to hide his little tune in several of the games he worked on henceforth.

POKE

I want to play with this immediately. Please arrange to have one installed in my room. Thank you.

Um

I've quizzed just about everyone I know, but nobody can help me. I've been looking at this actual Garfield comic for weeks now, trying to come up with some explanation for the punchline that doesn't involve Jon... how can I put this delicately... drinking dog semen. That just CAN'T be the joke. Somebody please help me. There's got to be something simple and boring and unfunny that I'm missing.

Super Unnerving Bros.

Somewhere around the release of Super Mario Sunshine, the Internet was for some reason abuzz with rumors that Nintendo planned to take the Mario franchise in a new, darker, more realistic "mature" direction. I think we can all be glad that those rumors weren't true, and we can all be made gladder by looking at this page.

Comfy

I don't know what's more remarkable: this article, or the fact that I was already familiar with the "Boyfriend Arm Pillow" mentioned at the end of it.

Great Scott

Brokeback To The Future is pretty much exactly what you think it might be, but it's quite well done and made me giggle. (Embedded video at YouTube)

Stretch ya neck

I forgot to blog this when it was making the rounds, which means you've probably already seen it, but whatever: here's a music video (embedded Quicktime) all about the legendary buried Atari E.T. cartridges. I'm impressed with how many of them they gathered together for this shoot.
